Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
